Professional Dental Cleaning
Preventive dentistry is based on good oral hygiene and regular professional dental cleaning (hygiene therapy), and it is important at any age. You may help prevent dental problems and save time and money by practising proper oral hygiene at home and visiting the dentist on a regular basis. You’ll keep your teeth and gums healthy in the process.
Registered Dental Hygienists perform your hygiene therapy. A dental exam and the procedures listed below will be included in your hygiene appointment.
Removal of calculus (tartar)
Calculus is a hard residue that forms on teeth and ranges in colour from yellow to brown when oral care is neglected. Plaque (a soft sticky substance that builds on teeth; primarily consisting of bacteria and food items suspended in saliva) can build up and harden into calculus. Calculus cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. Calculus develops above and below the gum line and may only be removed with the use of specialised dental instruments.
Removal of plaque
Plaque is a soft sticky substance that forms on tooth surfaces due to the accumulation of germs and food waste. It’s a colony of living bacteria, food detritus, and saliva that’s growing. Toxins (poisons) produced by the bacteria cause gum inflammation. Periodontal disease begins with this inflammation!
Teeth polishing
The procedure cleans and smoothes the teeth’ surfaces, removing stains and plaque (which aren’t removed by brushing and scaling) and making plaque stickier.
