Ask Dr. Saj

When can I eat after a filling?

You should be able to eat on a filling right away. We suggest starting with something room temperature and soft until all freezing has come out.

Is a root canal going to hurt?

Pain can vary from person to person, typically our patients have great experiences with root canals and some have even been known to fall asleep during their appointments. It’s all about timing the root canal procedure, we do our best not to do a root canal on a tooth when it is extremely sensitive.

What’s the difference between a cap and a crown?

Great question.  They are the same, in the past we may have heard of “caps” when referring to a crown, but they are one and the same.

Why do I have to have an exam and X-ray when I just want my tooth pulled?

In order to determine if a tooth needs to be taken out, the doctor needs to see what the roots and the bone around that tooth look like. The doctor also looks for important anatomical structures like the sinus and nerve to avoid unnecessary damage.

Why do I need X-rays?

X-rays help us see through the teeth and gums. A dentist can also see cavities in between the teeth on x-rays when they are still small or developing.  Additionally, X-rays help us see if the roots and bone are healthy.

It will only take a second, why can’t the Dr just see me now?

Our clinical team has schedules each day with planned time for each patient based on their needs for that appointment.  On occasion, we also have patients that require care that may have been unplanned.  We never rush through patients, we spend the time meeting every patient’s needs as best as we can.

What are gum pockets?

The gums form a collar around every tooth. We know how healthy they are by checking how deep this collar is. The pockets are in this collar, we check them at six points around every tooth to gauge health.

What is a root canal?

When the nerve in a tooth dies, usually the tooth structure is still healthy. A root canal is where we go in and remove the nerve, place filling material to add structure back into the space and then we can leave the tooth in the mouth. If we do not do that, the nerve will keep getting infected and can cause pain repeatedly. Once the root canal is done, we put a crown on the tooth to provide long term strength and to help prevent it from fracturing.

What age do I bring my child to the dentist?

We encourage parents to bring their children for a ride in the dental chair as soon as they have teeth. We want to help kids become aware of what a dental office is all about and get to know our team so that they feel comfortable as they grow.

Why do my teeth hurt after I get them cleaned?

We have some patients that experience discomfort after their cleaning.  Many of those patients have found that with regular cleanings the sensitivity goes down. If you find this ask your hygienist about options for having freezing during your cleaning and they will let you know if you are a candidate for that option. Ongoing home care and flossing really help minimize sensitivity as well.

What are Fastbraces?

Fastbraces is a technology which is different from regular braces. It was designed by an orthodontist for general dentists. We have been offering Fastbraces in our offices for a few years now and almost all our patients are done anywhere between 3 months to a year but almost never more than a year.  If you wish to find out more about your Fastbraces to change your smile please ask one of our team to book you in for a consultation and I will be happy to show you in more detail.

How long does it take from start to finish for a single tooth implant?

Implant procedures are dependent on each individual and their particular dental makeup.  However, as a general rule implant treatment can be done in as little as 6 months in some situations and as long as 12 months.

What is the difference between clear aligners vs Fastbraces?

They both work very well and accomplish the same thing. Clear aligners take a little bit longer. Fastbraces allow for modifications to occur faster than changes with aligners due to multiple steps in the process. The clear aligners’ biggest advantage is the fact that they are clear so no one knows you are undergoing braces.

As a new patient, can I just get a cleaning?

Of course, just let our team know that is your preference when you are booking.

How much is a cleaning?

A dental hygiene cleaning depends on the state of your oral health and teeth at that visit. The range is from $150 to $250, which is dependant on whether you require x-rays and how extensive the cleaning needs to be.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we do offer payment plans.  Speak to one of our business team members for more details and to see how to qualify.

Will you take my insurance?

We do accept insurance and can send them electronically for your convenience.  Typically, our patients have communication from their insurance company within 3-5 days when inquiring about their benefits.  Speak to one of our business team members to find out more details about your specific insurance.  There are some plans we do not accept
